Family Support for a REAL Winner!!
Sheridan has joined 4H this year and entered the parish cooking contest this past Saturday. At my urging, she made Memaw's Banana Cake recipe for the competition. As you can see from the picture, the cake turned out beautiful. It also tasted scrumptious and is mostly gone. We were very excited that she won a blue ribbon, meaning she was in the top group of the dessert category. She did not place in the top 5. We are very proud of her and her cake, but a little disappointed at the judges comments. After taking barely a forkful from the outside of the cake, the judge wrote that the icing was too sweet and maybe she should consider icing the cake with Cool Whip! (A travesty!!) They took off 13 points for that and another 2 for not using lowfat milk in the recipe. Unbelievable! I know all the Quick's can understand our frustration.

WHAT?!?! Obviously those judges know nothing about real southern cooking. It can never be too sweet or have enough enough fat in it. Sheridan was robbed!
Hey Libby and Sheridan, that is ridiculous, what kind of judge takes off points for sweet and rich banana cake! On that note, I lost memaw's authentic recipe this last time I moved and no other banana cake nearly compares. Would you mind posting it so I can see it or emailing it to me (courtney.a.quick@gmail.com)! Thanks Libby, I am dying to have the cake after reading your blog!
Sheridan was the victum of a vicious health Nazi who obviously does not know a banana cake from a Moon Pie. If you can get me the judge's name, I will have a couple of boys from the bayou pay her a little visit to do an attitude adjustment if you know what I mean.
OK, so was that the DESSERT category, or what??? What's a dessert if it isn't sweet? Cool whip is for fruit, not cake! Sheridan, I'm sure it was the best! Congratulations :)
